About the Course
Interpersonal and intercultural communication is a cluster of skills that can be applied to almost any situation. The underlying questions of this course are, how do we develop competencies that will assist us in sustaining healthy personal and professional relationships and avoid interpersonal or intercultural misunderstandings? How do we equip ourselves to communicate effectively with a diverse range of audiences in everyday situations?
Over four modules, we explore the basic theories and practices of interpersonal and intercultural communication:
• Module 1 develops an understanding of interpersonal communication with its definitions, benefits, processes, and principles.
• Module 2 focuses on understanding culture, intercultural communication, its importance, cultural norms, values, and, finally, developing intercultural communication competence.
• Module 3 targets the qualities of becoming an effective interpersonal and intercultural communicator by emphasizing verbal and non-verbal language competence, assertive communication, listening skills, and interpersonal communication competence.
• Module 4 facilitates interpersonal power and its influence and allows the demonstration of interpersonal communication to resolve a conflict.
A wide selection of content, videos, self-reflections, case studies, scenarios, etc. aid in developing a solid understanding of interpersonal and intercultural communication in this course.
